Practical guide
Using the URL Encoder / Decoder
Encode URL components or decode percent-encoded text.
Example
Input
hello world & teaExpected result
hello%20world%20%26%20teaSupported inputs
- Text values for URL components, such as query parameter values and fragments.
- Percent-encoded text for decoding.
Limitations
- This encodes a component, not a complete URL; encoding a whole URL will also escape structural characters such as / and ?.
Frequently asked questions
Should I encode the entire URL?
Usually not. Encode individual query values or fragments so URL separators remain intact.
Why does decoding fail?
The input may contain incomplete or invalid percent escapes. Check that every percent sign is followed by two hexadecimal digits.
